The Shortlist Atlas Privacy Policy
Effective 18 October 2026. The app keeps your trips on your iPhone and in your own iCloud. We do not collect them.
The short version
- We collect nothing from the app. No account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party software kits.
- Your data stays yours. Trips, saved places, notes and ratings live on your iPhone and, if you leave iCloud backup on, in your private iCloud storage, which we cannot read.
- Apple takes the payments. We never see your card, name or email address.
The app's App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.
Who we are
The Shortlist Atlas is made by The Shortlist Atlas LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company in the United States. The iPhone app is published on the App Store by Popquarry Productions Limited Liability Company. In this policy, “we” means both. Questions go to support@theshortlistatlas.com.
What stays on your iPhone
Your trips, itineraries, saved towns and places, notes, ratings, tour progress, saved starting addresses, scouting scores and stay history are stored on the device. They are not sent to us.
iCloud backup
iCloud backup is on by default and can be turned off in the app under You. It saves a copy of your app data in your private iCloud database through Apple's CloudKit. Only your Apple Account can read it; we cannot. It is a backup, not live syncing: use Restore from iCloud on a new phone.
Location
The app uses your location only if you turn on day logging for the Stay Counter. It records the date and the country you were in, and nothing finer. Apple's geocoding service turns your position into a country; the position itself is not stored and is never sent to us. You can turn this off at any time in the app or in iPhone Settings.
Maps, directions and links
Directions open Apple Maps or Google Maps. When you open a route, that app receives the destination and the starting point you chose, under its own privacy policy. Links to attractions, tourism offices and official sources open those websites, which have their own policies.
Notifications
Reminders, such as leave-by times and the note two days before a free trial ends, are scheduled on your iPhone. No push server is involved and nothing is sent to us.
Purchases
Subscriptions and the Trip Pass are bought through your Apple Account. Apple processes the payment under its own privacy policy. The app learns only whether a purchase is active; we receive no card details, name or email address.
Things you choose to send
Travel-together invitations and export files are links and files that you choose to share. They go wherever you send them and never pass through us.
If you email us
If you write to support@theshortlistatlas.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to answer you and to fix what you report. Our mailbox is hosted by Google Workspace. We do not sell, rent or share your address, and we delete correspondence we no longer need.
Children
The Shortlist Atlas is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your data: in the app, open You, then Delete Local Atlas Data. This removes the app's data from your iPhone and from its iCloud backup. There is no Atlas account to close.
- Deleting the app removes its local copy. Your iCloud backup stays until you delete it in the app or in iPhone Settings under your name, iCloud, Manage Storage.
- Emails you sent us: ask for a copy, a correction or deletion at support@theshortlistatlas.com.
- Depending on where you live, including California and the European Economic Area, you may have further rights under local law. Because we hold no app data about you, those rights apply only to email you have sent us. We do not sell or share personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change affects what the app collects, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
